This flower,
rooted in the rich soil
of “Guide Me, O Great Jehovah;”
“Yes, Jesus Loves Me”. . .
blossomed.
Vocal ranges and rifts penetrated beyond
the walls of
New Hope
to private Ipods
and majestic arenas teeming with adoring crowds,
beyond Newark’s borders and American ports.
It flourished to full maturity, and we inhaled its fragrance for two decades.
Then the petal wilted,
But not without returning to the old hope of “Yes, Jesus Loves Me”
and Newark’s New Hope,
escorted in ivory limousines to the altar where
Whitney, The Voice, The rose first
Protruded through the soil.
