I am sitting here looking at a blank page on the computer; just waiting for an inspiring thought. The thought of writing a childrens book has been tumbling around my mind for the last few weeks, but what? How do I begin such an undertaking?
Im not sure if I can talk their language any more, it has been quite a while since I have been around little kids, my grandchildren are grown.
How do I talk to them, what age group should I target? It will have to be simplistic; Simplistic? I dont know if a child would use a word like simplistic. Maybe keep it simple stupid. Yes I think they would understand that.
I was talking to a friend about this and she told me to check out a few childrens books from the library. That was a good idea. Off to the library I went and browsed through the childrens section; armed with an arm full of books I went home.
I was amazed at the size of the print; it was even larger than in my giant print Bible. It was easy to read. I think I may stick to reading childrens books from now on.
If I am going to write for children, I am going to have to start thinking like a child. That may be all right. Thinking back to my childhood, it seems that things were more simplistic, whoops, there I go again; Keep it simple stupid. Things were not nearly as complicated way back then.
Back to my search for something that would be of interest to a child; I think all children like animals and farm stuff, why not go a way back in time, a different time, a time when I was their age, a time most children know nothing about. I think Ill write about my first experience on a farm when our family, just coming out of the great depression moved from the city to the country. My first experience with farm life; at the age of five years, I became a farmer, straw-hat and all.
