What exactly does that mean. I have heard that statement most of my life as an expression to get out of the present condition or position you are in and do it fast. When you hear this expression don’t you feel like it is prudent to move with haste and do it now?
Yet, when you break it down, how do we draw that conclusion from this statement? Looking in Webster’s Dictionary, we see “Run”… to go faster than a walk; specifically : to go steadily by springing steps so that both feet leave the ground for an instant in each step, to go rapidly or hurriedly, to go in urgency or distress. “Like”… Function: preposition : having the characteristics of : similar to. “Hell”… 1. a nether world in which the dead continue to exist : HADES (2) : the nether realm of the devil and the demons in which the damned suffer everlasting punishment
When you break these words down, the statement doesn’t really make sense unless you take some liberty with the real meaning of the words. This statement, when translated by the dictionary would be best stated as: Go faster than a walk; as a matter of fact, go rapidly or hurriedly with great distress as if you were or just like you were in Hell which is the place where the devil and his demons, along with all the damned who will suffer everlasting punishment. See what I mean? How does this fit? What’s all the hurry in Hell? Where have those who will dwell there have to get to in such a hurry? Come on now; what’s up with this statement? Will it be cooler over on the north forty? Oh, maybe a little breeze down by the big blazing clumps of coal over yonder?
Well, I don’t know about you but, I kinda feel this statement, “Run like Hell,” means to beat feet in the opposite direction than the one that leads to Hell. Get out of the mess you got yourself in and do it now before it’s too late. Now, doesn’t that fit the statement better than old Webster, with his understanding of the practical meaning of words? Can you see how this statement can take on a powerful admonishment?
I truly believe we need to be shouting this warning now, more than ever before. Run, don’t walk! Get out of the mess you are in by turning completely around, a 180 degree turn, just as if you were in the pits of Hell and saw a door open leading to freedom from this most despicable place. Wouldn’t you run with all you had within you for that door of escape from this everlasting place of punishment and torment? RUN LIKE HELL!
Sad, but so many will CHOOSE to keep their destination of Hell no matter how many people warn of the pending judgment that will reserve their place in this abominable, everlasting place of torture and agony. What a crying shame.
Fact is, there is a literal Hell. Once one gets there, there will be no door open or escape of any kind. The only door of escape is one you have to open while you are still alive in this body you presently dwell in. Jesus is this door. He said in Revelation 3:8, I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name. And in Revelation 3:20, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”
So, who you gonna listen to? The world shouting, “Come on in folks, we got a plan to make you like little gods. You can live any way you want to and it’s all gonna be alright.” Just run like Hell towards our pit…uh, we mean our door. It feels so good in here. Y’all hurry on now! PUKE!
Or, will you pay heed to the One who created us and who loves us so much that He gave His only begotten Son to die for our sins so that we could have everlasting life by opening the Door, Jesus, and letting Him into our lives by believing in Him with our hearts and confessing Him with our mouths? If so…RUN LIKE HELL! Get the meaning?
Look folks, I’m not trying to sell track shoes here. I am trying to make a point that we need to be a lot more alert to what is going on around us and get on our knees and pray that God will give us a burning desire to shout the alarm, “Run like Hell,” while there is still time. Darkness is starting to cover this world and the light is fading because Christians, purveyors of the light, are hiding their light under the bushel of apathy. Again, PUKE! Revelation 3:9 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
Folks, some of you, who call on the name of Jesus, are heading south in a great big wave of regurgitation right from the mouth of the one whom you pretend to know and represent.
Hear the word of a Watchman, “RUN LIKE HELL!”

AMEN! Well spoken! The lukewarm-ness I see among many is frightening. It's as though the Word goes in one ear and out the other. But we keep shouting in hopes that God will give some the ears to hear.
Wow! That's a scary warning...
Amen! It really scares me,the cool indifference of the people around me, the way very few can see the terrible judgment of God coming. If it's hard to get the people who LIKE you to listen, God help all the rest!
