DIVINE EXPANSION
Seven (7) Triggers of Divine Expansion
And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us. Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye. And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go. So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood. But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed. And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim. 2Kings 6:1-6;
Growth is not an event, it is a process. Nobody stumbles into greatness and enlargement in life; expansion never comes by accident, but as a result of deliberate actions of men. Many people desire to experience enlargement in their lives and ministry, but only very few people are willing to pull the triggers. This explains why many people never breakthrough into significance but perpetually remain on the same spot.
It has never been God’s desire that His children live average life or operate under any form of limitations. Nothing grieves the heart of God like seeing His own children live average life and operate at minimum level. Average life is certainly not the kingdom lifestyle. Jesus says in John 10:10B ‘I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly’. The only way to demonstrate and justify the new life we have in Christ is to live a life that knows no limitations!
From the story of the sons of the prophets presented in the above scriptures, the Spirit of God is laying before us, certain triggers that must be pulled before you can experience expansion. As many of us that are praying for divine enlargement in life and ministry, there’s a part we are required to play, God will never do for a man, what He has empowered him to do for himself.
Trigger #1 – Dissatisfaction
The first trigger of divine enlargement is inner dissatisfaction with the status quo. As long as you are satisfied with the situation or condition you currently find yourself, you cannot experience change or divine expansion. For the sons of the prophets, journey to divine enlargement began with dissatisfaction with the status quo. They said unto Elisha, “Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us”. As you can see, breakthrough of the sons of the prophets began at the very point they began to get dissatisfied and abhor the condition they found themselves. They obviously had been in that condition for some time, but nothing changed until they got dissatisfied with the situation. If you don’t challenge the status quo, you may remain on the same spot for long.
It is noteworthy that the sons of the prophets were dwelling together with Elisha in the same hut, but the move that triggered enlargement was not initiated by Elisha, but they themselves. The simple lesson here is that God will never reject for you any situation you have decided to tolerate! Until you begin to hate life of average, there’s no way you can experience enlargement of coast.
Dissatisfaction that triggers divine enlargement can begin in form of inner feeling of restlessness from your spirit or mind. By the time you’re no longer ‘feeling at home’ with the condition or position you currently find yourself, it may be a signal that it’s time to step out. However, it must be stated that you don’t necessarily have to wait for the signal of ‘unease feeling’ at all times, you’ve got to consciously initiate and take a deliberate decision to get dissatisfied with the status quo.
The condition you currently find yourself necessarily need not be bad before you begin to get dissatisfied with it. It doesn’t matter how comfortable you feel you are, there’s always something better than you’ve experienced; there’s always a height you have not reached; there’s always a depth you’ve not known; there’s always room for improvement and expansion, so dissatisfaction with the status quo is the trigger you’ll be required to always pull in order to break new grounds in life.
You cannot embrace the future if you’re not willing to let go of the present! As long as you continue to relish the position you find yourself, you’re not ready for change and divine enlargement.
Trigger #2 – Desire
Looking at the story of the sons of the prophets, another thing that played a key role in their breaking forth from minimum to maximum was their strong desire for a change of status. The sons of the prophets were not only dissatisfied with the small hut they had for abode, they equally displayed very strong desire for something bigger and better. If they were only displeased with the situation they found themselves, they could have stopped at complaining or blaming someone or something for their situation. However, given their strong desire for change of status, they took the bull by the horns; their strong desire propelled them to action.
Desire is that strong and compelling inner longing that invites or drives a man towards something or a particular course of action. Desire is like hunger, when it sets in, it craves something to feed on until it is satisfied. Desire is also like fire, it looks for something to consume, and cannot be quenched until it has nothing more to feed on. God deliberately created man with the ability to desire and crave, however, how man chooses to engage or direct this inner craving is another thing entirely.
Where inner longing is lacking or wrongly directed, man’s ability and potentials will be short-circuited. Inner longing and desire is that propeller that drives man and produces the energy to pursue a course of action.
You were created to be insatiable!
Proverbs 30:15-16 says “The horseleach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things say not, It is enough: The grave; and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water; and the fire that saith not, It is enough.”
Yes, God created man to always ask for more! No matter how much you ate yesterday, your body will not cease to ask for food today, because hunger is well and alive inside of you. When desire dies, aspiration dies; when aspiration dies, everything dies! It was man’s desire and insatiable appetite for more, and much more, that brought humanity to the current state of development and achievements in terms of science and technology. Without desire for more and much more, man obviously would have remained in Stone Age.
When you find yourself in an unpleasant situation or condition, the easiest thing to do is to complain or look for someone or something to blame. Until you begin to desire something new, you’re not ready to divorce the old. Luke 5:39 says “No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better”. Looking at the attitude of the sons of the prophets, they did not complain or look for someone to blame about their situation. Their desire for a change in the situation they found themselves, irrespective of who or what was responsible, propelled them to action.
You may be dissatisfied with the situation you find yourself, but if you lack the desire to change the status quo, you will remain on the same spot for long. This appears to be the state of so many people. It’s not that they’re really pleased with the situation they find themselves; it’s not that they don’t know they could have something much better than they currently have, but they just seem to completely lack that yearning and inner longing for change of status.
Desire Propels Expansion!
The stronger the desire of a man, the higher the level of inner strength released towards the pursuit of a particular course of action. Show me a man that lacks the desire to press further, I will show you a man that is on his way to extinction! God didn’t create us to maintain; our desire for more and much more is a great trigger of divine expansion. Even in our walk with God, if we lack the desire to seek and know more of God, it will be difficult for us to ascend the rungs of the ladder of spiritual exploits. Complacency is a killer; desire for more is a significant driver of divine enlargement.
If you are not improving, growing or expanding, you need to check your desire gauge. If your heart is no longer yearning for more, you have put a peg on your destiny, progress becomes suspended. As long as your heart keeps yearning for more, and much more, you are bound for the heights! Don’t stop yearning; never stop longing for more!
