How do we look at our world? The science community would tell us that we have to be looking at the right set of data to get the right information. David W Anderson wrote a book of Religious education with the amusing title, Frogs without Legs Can’t Hear. In their hypothetical study, frog legs were taken off one, two three legs at a time until at last you had a frog with no legs. They would implore the frog, “Jump, Frog jump, “ and measure the jumping ability. The frog with no legs couldn’t jump, so our hypothetical researchers came to the conclusion that frogs without legs are deaf.
Do we follow God with hopes of living a fuller and more complete life? We can know all kinds of biblical truth, and not have the insight or power to change anything. Why is that? Are we following a powerless and uncaring God or are we just not amenable to using His power and protection? Loved people do crazy and remarkable things, yet God’s Kingdom is not growing here on Earth and His influence on world affairs is diminishing?
Does Christianity work personally? The men and women who were sent out after Pentecost could tell you. Jesus conquered death. There was nothing left to fear. They went out through out the known world saying that God loved them and could love them too. By their actions, the disciples showed what that love looked like.
Christianity must have legs, our legs, and power. The coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost was prophesized to bring that power. The word for power is dunamais, the Greek word we get our word dynamite from.
We have all the resources to move physically, emotionally and spiritually. God wants us to jump. Will we?
