ABBA, FATHER
Freelance writer Lupie Riley
Thought: The word Abba is Aramaic (the language spoken in Jesus time) for Father. What would be the attributes of an earthly Father? Would it be love, loyalty, comforter, encourager, role model and spiritual leader (teacher)?
There are thousand of individuals in the world that have never known a real 'daddy' in their lives. It could have been because of death, divorce, war's or abandonment. They have never had the opportunity to know a Father who loves them and is there for them. The Bible calls them the Fatherless.
However, their heavenly Father, the God who is all powerful, all knowing, ever present and who created and sustains all things loves them dearly (John 3:16). He's the Father/God that took on the flesh of man (Jesus) and paid the penalty for sin we so deserved. He freed us up from the bondage of sin by his one time sacrifice on the cross. He is always loyal and will never leave us. He is our role model (example) and mentor (teacher).
After his ascension he returned in Spirit as the Comforter, giving hope, strength, wisdom and encouragment for a better life in the near future. We have his blueprint (Bible) on how to live our lives according to his will and plan (II Tim. 3:16).
Through faith in Christ and what he accomplished on the cross (Salvation) we have the right as a child of God to address him as our Father. His Word tells us when we invite the God/Man (Jesus) into our lives we become his family. If you are one of those thousands who have never experienced a Father in your life come to Jesus and invite him in today. Amen
Prayer: Father God, There's not a word in my vocabulary that truly expresses my gratitude for what you did for me on the cross. Knowing you as my Father is something I cherish in my heart and I'm comforted by the promise that you will never leave me alone. I look forward to meeting you face to face when you come to take us out of this world (rapture). Amen
Scripture: Rom. 8:15,16 "And so we should not be like cringing fearful slaves, but we should behave like God's very own children, adopted into the bosom of his family and calling to him "Father, Father." For his Holy Spirit speaks to us deep in our hearts and tells us that we really are God's children." Gal. 4:6 "And because we are his son's (and daughter's) God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts so now we can rightly speak of God as our dear Father.
