Resurrection Power
By Frederick Blue
February 19, 2017
When we make a decision to follow Christ, it is not based on our own power. It is the power of the Holy Spirit that draws us to God. Everyone has a “resurrection experience” that appeals to the heart about what Christ has done. He atoned for our sins on the cross and taught his disciples and others that if He be lifted up, He would draw all men unto Him (John 12:32). All who come to Christ have a resurrection experience that transforms them out of darkness and into the marvelous light of God, emboldened to walk in victory because God raised Jesus from the dead with all power in His hand!
The disciples, perpetually perplexed and doubtful at various stages within the 3 ½ year ministry of Jesus, were materially impacted by the resurrection. During and after the crucifixion, many of the disciples were in hiding, fearing for their lives and distraught over the savage death of their teacher/leader. As Jesus revealed Himself subsequent to His victory over the grave to his followers, their attitudes and outlook changed. As Jesus would later promise (Acts 1), He would bring to them a Comforter in the Holy Spirit. Filled with this power (Acts 2), the disciples boldly preaching the gospel and obedient even in light of the threat of death (many were martyred for their faith). The chief persecutor of Christians (Acts 8), Saul of Tarsus, had a resurrection experience (Acts 9). What other reason could be given about a man who instigated and led a number of campaigns to arrest, harm and kill Christians (Saul was there when the Gentile covert Stephen was stoned to death) and dismantle the movement? On the road to Damascus and looking forward to another assault, Saul encountered Jesus and was blinded. He later, through the power of the Spirit of God converted from Judaism to Christianity and became the chief apostle and preacher to the Gentiles. He became known as Paul and today is credited as the author of about half of the New Testament writings (about 13 of the 27 books). He wrote vividly about Christ’s resurrection from the dead and its eternal impact on our lives as Christians.
In 1 Corinthians, Chapter 15, he cites a creed that was passed down to him about the resurrection of Christ and the revelation to over 500 witnesses prior to His ascension into heaven. What is your resurrection experience? If you’re a Christian, you have had an encounter with the living Christ, not in a physical sense like the earlier Christians had, but in a spiritual one. It was real and compelled you to confess your sins, understand the need for a savior and give your life to the Lord. You have not had one you say? Well, if you don’t have a relationship with God through Christ, the gift of salvation is available to all creation. The Bible says that God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son and whosoever believeth in Him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16).
Romans 10:9 tells us that if we confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. I implore each and every one of you that reads this article to be encouraged as Christians to know that God has and will fulfill His promises and that His Word will not return unto Him void. I encourage those who are seeking to find answers to purpose and destiny in life, to consider the acceptance of the free gift of salvation that God has provisioned through His grace. Do not become deceived that there are other ways to God. Jesus said Himself in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth and the life; no man cometh unto the Father but by me.” Seek God earnestly and you will encounter a resurrected Jesus. God bless and keep you.
