“Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.” Hebrews 7:25 KJV
Having reviewed the phrase he is able, we now come to another ability of Christ, to save them. In looking at the Greek language, the pronoun them does not appear, but was added by the King James translator for better grammar. The beginning of this verse directly translates as, “Whence, also, to be saving.” The Greek work used for to save is sozein, which means: to save, keep safe and sound, to rescue from danger or destruction, to deliver or protect, heal, preserve, to be made whole, to save a suffering one from perishing.
One word in Hebrew is Yasha (Yod-Shin-Ayin), a primitive root which means to be liberated, saved, delivered, be victorious in battle. The Hebrew name for Jesus is Yeshua, which means salvation, deliverance. A method of study of the Hebrew language is to associate the meaning of a word with the characteristics of the Hebrew letters. For the word Yasha, the Yod tells of spirituality, we look up for our hope, our future home is in heaven. The letter shin, for wholeness, completeness, peace and harmony with God. Lastly, the Ayin tells of light and enlightenment.
The word is used multiple times in the Old Testament, here is one use found in Isaiah 33:22.
For ADONAI is our judge, ADONAI is our lawgiver, ADONAI is our king. He will save us. CJB
To be saving, a verb tense with a beginning in the past or present and continues on into the future. I personally know people who have been divinely healed of cancer, drug addiction, people healed of sin, the darkest sin by our standard, demons casted out, all in the power of Jesus savings them!
Jesus is ready now and will be ready in the future to save us from anything this life, powers, principalities, and the evil one can throw at us. For the child of God, I can hear my former Sunday School teacher’s voice ringing out loudly, “We are saved, we are sealed, rescued, preserved, made whole, we are saved, hallelujah, we are saved, children of the living God, grafted into the choice vine! Merry Christmas!”
As this is my second post to this website, I want to add that this was one of the first verses where I started studying deeply the Word of God. I come from a technical background, where investigating and studying deeply is in my nature; however, as the next word study showed me, I was missing an important part of studying the Bible. Every word in the Bible has been technically analyzed, but there are hidden and deeper meanings, where the source of understanding comes from one place. I found it in the next word study, to the uttermost.
