Balancing Relationships
By
Japhet Mphande
“When one talks of relationships it implies the matching of two people, a partnership. But the word means so much more. Each and every one of us has to be in several relationships if this world is to change for the better….”
Every day affairs are being made as and many more terminated as much the number as the contacts. Some end because of change of environment, others end on individual cause such as incurable social illness, infidelity, lack of money, abuse such as battering, indecision. But many more are terminated by suspicion, sickness or by other natural causes such as death.
On the ground, man has a companionship with nature or creation and gazing at heaven, at heart he has to have a spiritual relationship with God: which can also be horizontally expressed to his fellow beings. This will help the individual of where to find recourse.
In addition, everyone has to have a relationship with fellow mankind – consanguineous ties, intimate knots as in marriages but abused in pederasty, fornication and adultery, and in rape the essence of a relationship is highly disregarded and distorted to end in abomination.
When any of these relationships is not handled with conscientiousness, it’s ourselves who will suffer harsh consequences. If a president refuses to step down when he is not wanted, the citizens will suffer.
Truly, relationships determine the shape of our faces each and every day. Sometimes deep rooted relationships bring tears – tears of happiness or tears of sadness, when someone encounters disheartening words such as words of divorce or any other words that can shake or end or rip up the foundations of a relationship in blasts.
There is another kind of unnatural relationship, which affects everyone in the world. The partnership of your currency and that of the United States dollar or the British Pound. How is it? Is it volatile or it offers economic opportunities? Does it still continue determining the rich and the poor in your country?
Today it is crystal clear that mankind has for a long time now maintained a constantly hostile relationship towards nature by willingly accepting the bitter outcome of his actions against mother nature.
Just look at how much carbon monoxide the rich countries pump into the air every day.
On the other hand, when nature vents its anger and becomes violent no man can hold nature back and not even the latest technology can assist. Lightening can strike life and leave behind death. Floods can wreak havoc. Cyclones; name them, who and who, ‘both females and males’ can leave a trail of disaster as they speed away. Phew! Earthquakes constantly rage against architecture, breaking well planned architectural work, and thought to stand the test of such times, volcanoes can set cities and towns alight and swallow them up.
The global HIV and AIDS epidemic disaster is mainly a relationship problem between you and someone. The so-called ‘Holy war’ is a relationship problem between people trying to settle the scores about whose God one should worship. Hunger too, becomes another heartbreaking union problem between man and the natural world – loss of soil fertility is the issue here. Circumstantial evidence heavily weighs against mankind in a man-nature partnership when handled without cogitation and carefulness.
In Genesis 1:26 (Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”) God gives mankind mandate to take care of nature.
Finally, for millions and millions of people veracious and viable relationships are decaying. As time passes, they become disastrous, but for many many people they have a responsibility to use their tongues and finger-tips sensibly and compassionately to make and maintain good ties.
