TITLE: The Lilac Flower By William Hynd 03/26/09 |

The Lilac Flower
Today I found a little lilac flower beside the shore,
Seemingly fragile but rooted in this harsh salty scrub.
Delicate florets, short green stem, yet more,
The universal mystery hidden in a tiny shrub.
Each cell is itself a miracle to wonder at
Structures of startling complexity
Generations stretching back in time
From now to a distant age
An unbroken line to the drawing board.
And yet you cling to this course land
Alone here unlike the meadow hoard
A gift from God in wind blown sand.
