My journal is an extension of me;
like a fifth appendage built in for balance.
It is there I pour out my heart before God,
spill out my deepest thoughts;
and express feelings I can share
with no one else on earth.
In the deepest of night, I rise up to write,
in the silence and the solitude I so cherish.
It is a haven set apart from the world around me.
Our family has had its share of chaos and calm,
as most families do.
I am sometimes rocked to the core yet I enter pleas
for mercy; the grace to overcome the brick walls
of pride into which we run;
the hurdles of dissension into which we slam,
and the height of the bar of temptation that
seems impossible to overcome.
We have also tasted the sweet victory of God’s
blessings in the splendid gifts of His love revealed
when we embrace and forgive one another.
The conflicting voices of my conscience
respect and listen to each other; they argue,
reason, and then one inevitably yields to the
overwhelming goodness that resides in my spirit.
Instead of chaotic confusion cluttering my mind,
I channel it all into my passion for writing.
