The bright heart red of things;
The essential blood colour; red badge of honour;
The colour of courage, of passion and love.
Coming to red, rainbow-wise, via purple and pink
Each bearing the faint traces of the red to be.
Then the bursting assault of raw red on the eye
The vivid, the vital - the validity of it.
God speaks, reaching beyond tired minds
When intentions and distractions sorely compete.
I contend with myself to try to be still
And to wait on Grace. Oh, the red of it.
Reds of truth, hearts blood, and, yes, gore.
I know, this way, that God is speaking.
As He knows I do listen for His voice.
When prayer just buffets around my brain.
Reds are coming to me, eyes catching every one.
The reckoning red skies of cold winter nights,
Hope-filled spring flowers red nudging through.
The red-edged leaves. The joy of it all.
Bush walking I find a red scarf of purest blend.
Surprisingly tea - afloat with red petals!
And new boots, 'sorry, only available in red.'
Now noticing reds everywhere I look.
And, oh, the love,
When He and I meet in the very reds of it all.
