Not My Will but Thy Will Be Done
By Jill Horn

When we are praying a request that we want very badly, the words, “not my will but Thy will be done” are the hardest part to say.

When a friend or relative is gravely ill, “not my will but Thy will be done”.

When your job transfers you to another state, “not my will but Thy will be done”.

When a relationship seems shattered beyond repair, “not my will but Thy will be done”.

Jesus prayed before his crucifixion, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” (Luke 2:42 NIV)

As I am praying and I remember that Jesus said it unto death, I can say, “not my will but Thy will be done” with the help of Jesus, my Lord and Savior. In fact, when I say it, it’s not really me saying it but His spirit that lives in me. He is saying it for me, then he will give me the strength to bear it. He has a perfect track record of never making a mistake and I can trust he won’t make his first with me.

Not my will but Thy will be done.
