The Receiver
The day was typical and unassuming. I began it as I do so many, by exercising my physical body early in the morning. After completing my early morning workouts, I always pop in a praise and worship CD and give glory and honor to the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus usually speaks to me during my quiet time in His word or in the middle of the night. However, on this particular morning, He spoke to me in the shower as I was preparing for my quiet time. The Lord gave me a practical example of the role of the Holy Spirit in my life and in the life of every Christian. He used something that is so common today that we hardly even notice or care how it functions. We see it everywhere. He told me that I was like a satellite dish. I said Lord “I’m like a satellite dish”, “How so?” The Lord said, “See that satellite dish” I said “Yes Lord” “That satellite dish is only made up of metal and plastic and by itself it is absolutely worthless and useless.” “But, it was designed and built to receive a signal and then produce a picture.” “It cannot do anything but receive and produce.” The satellite is always transmitting a signal. However, sometimes because of storms, trees, debris or other obstacles, they temporarily block the signal to the dish. “My son (DeWayne), that’s how I designed and built you.” “You are to receive what the Holy Spirit hears from me and produce those things in your life.” “However, when the storms, debris, or trials of your life come and block His signal don’t become stagnant, weary, and discouraged.” “Remember that He is always transmitting and I told you I would never leave or forsake you ever.” So the next time you see a satellite dish just look up and say, “There is my function to receive and produce.”
Sincerely in Christ,
