TITLE: Meadowlark By Pam Novak 01/07/08 |
|
Now late into September
The meadowlark still sings
As if he’s seen a thousand springs
And can each one remember.
Other birds gave up their song;
Their young have hatched and fledged,
And are long gone.
Why, then, is this hearty one
Still boisterous in the field?
Does he expect his song to yield
Long days of warming sun?
Lord, may I be like this bird,
Rejoicing that through darkening days
You keep Your word.
