Thanks for your comments. The poem is based primarily on what my sister is experiencing with her husband who has severe dementia. Neither are Christians so I added that element. But either way, it is sad.
Gone Fishin’

It was there a minute ago,in fact,just a second ago
Where it is now, I have no idea
If you do would you tell me
You did
When
Oh, that’s right…I remember now
It was there just a minute ago

My such a lovely person
What did you say your name was
Oh yes, I remember now, you were here last week
No, yesterday
Day before yesterday
Last year
We’ve never met have we
Of course, I knew that
What did you say your name was

No things are not as they used to be
But I have a mind like a steel trap
Where did I put my keys
Oh yes, I used to drive, but no more
Did you say we were going fishing
The doctor, who needs a doctor
That’s right I remember now
I have a mind like a steel trap

Is it really that funny
I have never found it amusing
Why wouldn’t I understand
Did I tell you I was going fishing
What do you mean it was there a minute ago
She’s such a lovely person

What a lovely day
God really does some wonderful things
He loves me you know
Is it really that funny
Why wouldn’t I understand
Jesus loves me this I know

What child’s song
It is no nursery rhyme
I have a mind like a steel trap

Why is that funny

I don’t think God saw the humor
It was his Son not some slovenly
Where did I put my keys
It was a cross not a punch line
Did I tell you I was going fishing
He did it for me AND for you
Where is the humor in that
