It comes as shadows in the night,
And stops our every breath,
It brings us to the end of life,
A thing we know as Death,
And it comes.
It comes to young and old alike,
It comes to one and all,
And though we do not welcome it,
We answer to its call,
And it comes.
It comes to those so close to us,
And those we never knew,
And one day it will come for me,
And one day come for you,
And it comes.
It comes to take us as we are,
In sickness or in health,
In happiness or misery,
In poverty or wealth,
And it comes.
It comes to take the things we have,
And everything we are,
To take the things we count as dear,
From near and from afar,
And it comes.
It comes, but we don't have to fear,
"Oh Death, where is thy sting?"
For Christ has conquered Death and Hell,
Eternal life to bring,
Let it come.
