Something suddenly occurred to me
God has given us a wardrobe of bright array,
It is unique and special for all to see.
The garments are those of the Holy Spirit
The first is our mercy toward our brother
People see our compassion when we wear it,
By the empathy we show each other.
The second piece we put on is that of being kind
The joy and love in our hearts for all we know
And to help those in distress we might find,
That they may see You in the acts we show.
Humility comes next, and if we win or lose
God is always there to cloak us in His grace
He gives us hope and the freedom to choose,
He lets us know with Him we have a place.
Meekness is one of the best things to wear
It helps us to endure evil at another's hand
It gives us courage to face troubles we bear,
And gives us the confidence to make a stand.
Two more are longsuffering and forgiveness
These are the hardest to put on and wear
Accepting others as they are isn't really in us,
But these go together we put them on as a pair
Love is the last thing we wrap in and put on
This of all the other pieces is truly the best
It is the garment the Holy Spirit built upon.
Because without it we are not fully dressed.
