Before I met you,
My life seemed so complete.
Oh believe me, no one could compete
For I was content with my life
And the progress and sight
Of the world through my eyes.
Before I met you,
I was irresistible and free.
Happy and comfortable being me
Morning, noon, or night
Whether cloudy or bright
An unspoken (quiet) coolness.
Before I met you,
I was full of hope
That life would lead me
Down a path of success and ecstasy.
Full of fire and passion
Convinced that no one could stop me.
After I met you,
My life seemed so complete
For a brief moment in time.
Oh it’s easy to find
Excuses for why
Success seemed to pass me by.
After I met you,
I felt constrained and limited
To only those dreams
That you schemed in to being
Able to give you means.
Now I feel desolate.
After I met you,
I was full of rejection
And resentment
Because I felt my life has been spent
Chasing and pursuing you,
A breach of trust with fraudulent intent.
Before and after love,
That’s what I ponder
As I wander
To find the words to convey
Day by day
Why I am afraid
Of what I’ve become
Since I met you
And let you
Lead me astray from what I prayed.
