TITLE: Who do we have faith in? By Rhonda McKissack 05/09/07 |

I left the doctors office with bad news. The MRI showed severe arthritis in my left knee.
So bad I was looking at knee replacement surgery within a few years.
My life as I had known it was over. No more running, playing, and acting younger than my age. I was going down fast.
I started to ask the doctor just how long I had before my knee died on me. I was thinking here’s my chance to do all that I can do while I still can. Live life to the fullest.
Of course, the news could have been much worse but still I didn’t like my options.
With much determination, I left the doctors office thinking that I am not going down without a fight. I would exercise, lose weight and I would not have this surgery.
As I shared my news with my niece, she told me of some news she had heard about a man in another country. He was told he had some kind of disease and he had about six months to live. He came back to the states, took out all his money and spent every dime. His entire life savings gone. But six months passed and he wasn’t getting any sicker so he went to a doctor in the states only to find out he wasn’t dying and the illness he had could be cured.
His story seemed to be like mine. We both had put our faith in man. We left it up to them to decide our fate. Now I don’t know if this man was a Christian or not. He may have done some wonderful things with his money. But I know I received my information, accepted it and didn’t think to pray to God about my circumstances.
The Israelites did the same thing over and over. They wandered in the wilderness with Moses and complained about everything. They never turned to God. They couldn’t see past the troubles they were going through long enough to trust God.
When they were backed up against the sea, they saw no way out but God opened it for them. When they were hungry and thought they would die by humger, God sent manna and meat for them, and when they thought they would die of thirst, God provided water. Still, they didn’t put their faith in Him. And finally, when they were too scared to take over the promise land, God sent them back into the wilderness and they would never see it.
God takes our faith is Him pretty seriously. Yet we immediately start to whine. We don’t see the bigger picture. We don’t put our faith in Him.
I know that God knows what he is doing. Yet it was so easy for me to believe my life was doomed and try to fight what was happing to me.
Of course, God gave me a wakeup call and I had to repent for my unbelief and have faith that God will direct me from here.
So when we are so quick to give up on God, we should trust that he has our best interest at heart and He has a plan.
Lord
Help us to trust in you, you know the troubles we have and what we have to face in life.
You already know what is going to happen. It may be for our good or you may be using our trials and sickness to minister to others. Give me strength to endure, give me guidance to go forward, give me patience to wait on you.
In Jesus name
Amen
