Downtown Never Felt So Alive
Maybe it’s the lights. Maybe it’s the movement. Or maybe it’s the allure of the masses coming together as one. Either way, it draws you. Downtown is where the life is as stereotypes go. You can get lost in the busyness and the anonymity of just being present in a group of no-oneness (a new word, I just made up). You find the you, you were never meant to be. You find the you that everyone else wants you to be. But you find some sort of secluded acceptance and purpose in being the cheerleader chameleon. There is one thing you will find about most downtowns and that is the reality of poverty and just reality in general. So, in the same few blocks you will find a stage where those who thrive on facades and falsity and then a few breaths later you will find a group of people who can’t afford to be fake. They have lost everything, and in that loss they find who they were meant to be. In the midst of aloneness they find the wound that we all carry. In need of something spiritual. In need of something deeper and real. And it cries out in the middle of their everyday falling apart lives. But, they are more real than you and i. they can embrace reality, and I don’t think you need to become impoverished to get this point. But, Christ says that chosen are the ones who are poor in spirit. So this is what he was talking about. Being true to who you were meant to be. There is a sense of self-actualization when you embrace the life of a spiritual being. And Christ offers you your life, the life you were meant to live. But you must challenge all the rich things you possess in your life and see if they are creating false cities and friendships and realities that you have come to embrace as your own rather than seeing the truth behind the curtain. To see the wizard as just a man with a microphone. To see your need and neediness. And drink it in as a desirable attribute to add to your being. And to bring this quality to throne room. And realize it is better to be poor in your spirit or better said, true to who you were created to be. Be real. Be true. Burn the stages. And take your last bow and forever be done with the masquerade. This is where true life begins.
