What is this so pearly white
Draped from tree to tree
Longing to catch me in its lure
And drain my life from me?
Yes, your cords are strewn quite tight.
A spiders den you make.
But I’ll not fall into your trap
The spider my life to take.
I had once been tantalized
By your enchanting mass.
From the beauty of your strands
Would not allow myself to pass.
For that mistake I’ve suffered
With pain sharp as a knife.
To you I sacrificed a limb
But I still have my life.
No longer will I linger
Enticed by what I view
Or allow myself to be entrapped
By one so cunning as you.
For now I know your secret.
It is so plain to see.
To the spider you may provide a feast
But that meal will not be me.
