Mind, Body and Soul

God gave us the perfect utensils when He gave us our minds, bodies and souls. He also gave us the free will to do whatever we want with them. His wish though, is that we turn these back to Him. After all, they’re His anyway.

My mind often tells me to do things that are not of God. I get angry and lash out. I get hurt and retaliate. We can get angry or hurt, but we are still to love. We have to love God with our entire mind. We need to be focused on Him so that our entire being is square with His will for us.

Psalms 119: 16 I will have delight in your rules; I will not let your word go out of my mind.

No matter what the day or week may bring, I have to keep the word of God in my mind. I need to remember and recollect the teachings and verses that I know to keep my mind safe and serene. Man can’t give me this. I have looked for peace and serenity in other places and I have found that only God can provide this.

My body is God’s body. He created it down to the finest detail. He knows how many hairs are on my head, he knows how many scars and scrapes my body has. My flesh gets the best of me sometimes though. I indulge in foods that are not good for me. I don’t exercise and take care of my body. If lust is in my heart, my body will eventually follow.

I have to be careful with what my eyes see, my ears hear and my mouth speaks. I may see something that my body will want and it could be poison to me. I may hear some juicy gossip and allow that opinion to dominate my thoughts over someone, judging them in the process. I may tell someone that they’re no good or a failure and intentionally hurt them to make myself feel better.

Romans 7:23 But I see another law in my body, working against the law of my mind, and making me the servant of the law of sin which is in my flesh.

My body is a temple for God to work though and with. I have to take care of my body. I cannot drink to excess, I shouldn’t smoke and I shouldn’t purposefully injure myself. These are some sins of the flesh.

The soul is the most important thing, in my opinion, that I can give to God. It is my inner being and what makes me tick. My soul is a very special gift from the Lord. I can have sin in my heart, or soul, and it makes me do things that are not right in accordance with God’s will or word. I may think I have it all together because I have a job, a house and 2 cars in the garage but without God in my heart and soul, I have nothing.

Psalms 6:4 Come back, O Lord, make my soul free; O give me salvation because of your mercy.
