So, to avoid the possibility of his life being further wrecked by something outside his control, Paul chose to plea-bargain rather than pursue his claim of “innocent”. He accepted being on parole instead.
With these things in the back of my mind, I listened to my son – Preacher Man Paul – as he spoke. I was in awe at the power of God to change the lives around us as we pray for them. But, this was my son, close to my heart, my flesh and blood.
Paul reined himself in, “Well, Mom, I’d better cut it off now. Talk to you later?”
I answered in the affirmative. That he yearned for our long conversations we’d once had over faith in God, learning and growing, this was any mother’s joy too – and responsibility.
Jeff and I opened up our “Jesus Calling” devotional.
“You are Mine for all time – and beyond time, into eternity. No power can deny you your inheritance in heaven. I want you to realize how utterly secure you are! Even if you falter as you journey through life, I will never let go of your hand…”
This time it was Jeff who reached for a tissue to dry his eyes.
