I was helping in a Nursing Home with the Sunday lessons. One day we started talking about life after life experiences and someone shared a vision he had about floating over a field of flowers and the magnificent colors, more bright and beautiful than anything he’d ever seen. We tried to find an explanation of why things would look so much better in heaven but didn’t really come up with a good answer. I said I’d think and pray about it over the next week. The next Saturday night I met my wife at the front gate to open it for her when I noticed a couple of flowers in the lawn. I knew they were weeds being in the place they were but the color was something I had never seen before, beautiful. They really caught my eye. I went over to pick them and discovered they were only a common field growth which was planted in our area many years ago by farmers for sheep to graze on: bachelor buttons. My wife’s head lights combined with the glow of the field light gave them a different hue. Then it dawned on me, of course, things look different in heaven because of the Light, the Pure Light: God. His pure light will reveal everything, the beauty of all that He originally made and is now tarnished by sin.
I picked a couple of the bachelor buttons to take in the next day for the Nursing Home discussion. As I got out of the pickup, I thought I might need to explain the men what these flowers were for – to feed sheep. Then I heard God say, “I just fed you.” I looked up to heaven and had a laugh with God. Yes, there’s real meaning behind what He said and He knew I got the message – He is the Shepherd, I am a sheep, He just fed me spiritually.
He also has a great sense of humor.
