TITLE: My Bible By Cathy Grimes 09/23/09 |
|
There is dust on my Bible…..there shouldn’t be……but there is. All the pages still appear crisp and new, not a crease in sight. The Bible my mother gave me sits on a shelf gathering dust.
How did I drift so far away? I use to visit everyday. I’ve always turned to God’s word for solace when I was sad, for encouragement when I was down, for strength when I was weak. All my needs were met just by turning to God’s own word. Yet now, in my time of desperation, when I need God’s words most, I’ve turned away, let dust accumulate on the one source of comfort for my soul.
Lord, forgive me for my sin. Let me again know the joy only your words can bring. Help me to never forget from whence cometh my help. Let me again know the peace found within your comforting words. I need the comfort only you can give.
Now the dust is cleaned away and the pages lie open once again guide my hands and my heart to the places I need most. Let your words be a light for my life once again. Then when I am through with this earthly toil let the Bible I leave behind be worn thread bare with use. Let each page have tear stains for my children to see where I bowed my head over your word to pray for them. Let the margins be full of prayers for those my heart holds dear. Let my Bible be a treasure for those I leave behind, not a dust covered trinket sitting on a shelf.
