My elderly father had been taken to the nearby hospital for a heart catheterization. We had been visiting my daughter in North Carolina and my parents had come along for the Christmas holidays. After Dad’s surgery, Mom would spend all day with him and we would pick her up from the hospital in the evenings.
One of those evenings, we stepped into the hospital room and I saw bed linens strewn everywhere. They were on the bed. Sheets were draped across the chairs. Knowing that my dad didn’t like to have his feet covered, I couldn't imagine why there were so many sheets in the room.
“Where did all of these sheets come from?” I asked.
Without a pause, my mother chirped, “Oh, the nurses had him all wrapped up when they brought him back in the wheel barrel.”
