“Hey, Fuzz Ball!”
Fuzz Ball? Who are they talking to? Keep moving.
“Hey, Fuzz Ball”. I stop. “Yeah, you…where’d you get that fancy fur coat? Did your mommy give it to you?”
I look back only to see two slimy characters sticking their heads out of their hole in the ground. Oh, I know them well.
Perhaps if I just keep moving.
“Hey, buddy, come on over here and tell us your story again, ha, ha, ha,” snort, grunt. The one called Crawler has been giving me the worst time.
“Yeah, tell us about how you’re going to change one day and fly away,” his buddy, No Shoulders retorts.
Perhaps if I told them to ‘eat dirt’ they’d leave me alone. But that’s not the attitude I’m supposed to have.
“Okay, I’ll tell it all to you again,” turning towards them, acting as if I’m going over to them.
“POP”, back into their holes. I didn’t think so. I must keep a good attitude about this.
They too could be part of this if they’d only open their eyes.
I need to seek higher ground. The signs of a change are becoming apparent and I must prepare myself. I must seek that tree to cling to.
Moving on, the heads pop back out, mockingly acting as if they’re wearing a coat of many colors. They watch as “Fuzz Ball” slowly goes out on a limb and goes to work.
“Hey, Crawler, what d’ya think he’s doing?”
“Looks to me like he can’t take it any more. Going into his cocoon if ya ask me,” almost splitting their sides laughing.
What’s happening to me? I’m being changed. From the inside. What will I be like when He’s through with me?
Months pass. Occasionally our two worm friends notice the cocoon, they see movement inside once in awhile but that’s all. They go about their business as if nothing in their little world is wrong.
One day No Shoulders looks up. “Hey Crawler, something’s happening!”
The cocoon is moving violently. Swaying, bulging, splitting.
Slowly it opens. Even slower does a creature emerge, unlike what it was before, a new creation. Wings unfurling with life and start to flutter. The new creature lifts up and soars into the air.
“Hey Crawler, do ya’ get that?”
“Nay, it’s not for me. I just stay here and eat dirt.”
“Yeah, me too.”
I look down to see my two former adversaries going into the ground, only then do I notice they do not have eyes to see or ears to hear. Higher and higher I ascend, to meet my Master.
Be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed (Greek: metamorphosis) by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2 (KJV)
