Here I stand delivered
out from the burden of slave labor
No longer owned
It took a mighty act of God
who made it abundantly clear
we could not stay
And so we fled Egypt
with Moses as our only hope,
and prophesies of a promised land
We followed Moses to the sea
and waited there
to learn whether to go right or left
By the time we discovered that
they were coming after us,
they were swiftly gaining on us
Moses gave the command to stay put
and see God’s deliverance,
while the officers argued about which way to go
When the time to escape passed,
Moses gave the command to move forward
Straight into the sea
It was too late for anything else
but drown ourselves and our belongings
or face the Egyptians
Moses lifted his hand and stretched out his staff
at the Lord’s command
as a testament to His promise of deliverance
And then everything changed
The angel held the Egyptians at bay,
unable to get to us
The mighty wind came
and blew all night
when we thought all was lost
Then the cloud of fire behind us
Revealed a path of dry ground
Over the bottom of the sea
And we crossed over that night
Every one of us
Not one of us was lost
At dawn, with the Egyptians crossing after us,
Moses stretched out his hand again
over the sea behind us
The waters crashed down
drowning the Egyptians
and delivering us once more
