Father I’m dumbfounded
By the tolerance You show.
I thought You’d started over
With all the things You know.
I know I’ve been created
By Your tender hands.
You gather me from the dust
You call my name as man.1
From the start I am a sinner
My will for good is weak.
I know You could stop it all
With just the words You speak.
But You have given me
A gift that is my own.
Even as I stumble ‘round
You will bring me home.
Surprisingly I find
Forgiveness constantly.
I can’t seem to get it right
Yet You’re always there for me.
The amazement that I feel
As I stand and shake my head.
For without Your tender mercy
I know that I’d be dead.
I stand here confounded
At how You look at me.
By now I’d given up
On this failure that I see.
You don’t see this flaw
You see me whole and pure.
You help me walk a better walk
Cause that’s what friends are for.
