Encouragement
My daughter and I journeyed today to a Rannuncula farm along the coast of Southern California. It was breathtaking to see the rows and rows of colorful rannunculas in this huge field, taking a tour via tractor, and exploring a sweet pea maze. We spent a lovely day with God’s creativity displayed all around us. As we were leaving, I felt the Lord prompting me to buy gifts for 3 neighbors in our building, but one especially for a dear elderly neighbor who was away from us for a long time since having a stroke. Irene just recently came back to her own apartment and is thrilled to be surrounded by friends and familiar possessions.
I was unsure whether to take either the yellow and red bouquet, or the all pink one – which one, Lord? My daughter and I prayed and agreed on the pink arrangement.
I knocked on Irene’s apartment door and after being welcomed, I presented her with the bouquet of pink flowers. She was so happy! She asked me to go get her vase, the only one she had, from her bedroom. The vase was black and, you guessed it, pink – a perfect match. Next, she tried to direct me to scissors to trim away the packaging and cut the stems. I was not understanding her words, but finally she said “Look for Jesus and you will find what you are looking for.” Suddenly, I spied on top of a booksheft a small painting of the face of Jesus, and beneath the painting were the scissors! God was just using a sweet reminder to look to Him for whatever I needed.
After the flowers were trimmed, arranged, and sitting on her table where she could see them from her wheelchair, I knew it was time to go. I asked Irene if it was o.k. to give her a hug, and tell her the message I was to give her. She exclaimed “Oh my, yes, my dear…there’s more?” To that, mid-hug, I whispered in her ear “Jesus wants me to tell you “Oh, how I love my Irene.” I gave her a tiny kiss on the cheek and she broke into tears over how good the Lord is. He had reminded her that He still loves her dearly, and reminded me to look to Him to find what it is I am looking for. To that, we both gave a hearty Amen!
