The Lost Lamb
The lamb was bleating throughout the day,
Her mother heard but walked away.
For there was nothing she could do,
A fence was in between the two.
When the farmer and his wife,
Came to the scene of such strife,
The lamb just ran to the field's end,
Then turned and trotted back again.
So the farmer took his hammer and pliers,
To make a gap in the fence's wires.
But did that lamb go through the hole?
No, that was too frightening, poor wee soul.
A time of running to and fro,
With farmer and his wife in tow.
Towards the gap, then right on by,
That hole the lamb would never try.
"We'll corner her," the farmer cried.
"Let's do it then," the wife replied.
But the lamb was far too quick for that,
And ran right past in two seconds flat.
When the lamb was quite tuckered out,
From being chased all round about,
"One last go," the farmer said,
"Or we'll have to leave her here instead."
And what do you know? She found the hole,
Her nervousness she did control.
With one last hasty look around,
Through the opening she did bound.
The farmer and his wife were glad,
They didn't mind the strife they'd had,
For the lamb that was out was now in,
Time for fence fixing to begin.
And so the work was duly done,
The lamb did with her mother run.
She was home safe and sound,
The happiest little sheep around.
So if one of your own flock is out,
Don't just stand around and pout.
Make sure they know the proper way.
Keep chasing or it's out they'll stay.
If they're teetering on the brink,
Don't from your bounden duty shrink.
Lead them to the open door,
Guide them in, their life restore.
Tell them Jesus is the way.
He'll save them each and every day.
Love them, shield them renew them too,
Guide them in everything they do.
Then they'll be back with the flock,
The church God founded on the rock.
Their soul restored, begun anew,
And everlasting life their due.
