His mind was a dark and brooding ocean
A whirling deep of fears and fantasies,
A storm tossed sea of incessant motion
Its constant flux never seemed to cease.

Like flotsam flung around in mad unrest
When buffeted and battered by the swell
It briefly rides upon the ocean’s crest,
And plunges then to touch the depths of Hell.

Confusion reigned supreme on stormy seas
Where dark thoughts like angry breakers rolled---
No near horizon sets the mind at ease,
No lighthouse beacon calms the fretting soul.

Then a voice speaks loud above the tempest---
Jesus’ words penetrate the darkest night---
That He will give the heavy-laden rest,
In a world lost in darkness He’s the Light.

The brooding ocean’s now a blissful sea--
Its gentle wavelets lap the peaceful shore—
Dwelling place of serene tranquility,
Quiet calm, peace and stillness evermore.
