The Plan
Abram just received the greatest pep talk of all time. Ever since God told him “I will make you a great nation”, his lack of children was a problem which weighed him down. He’d moved several times, split from his nephew, fought in Chederlaomer’s war, and met Melchizedek, but the succession question would not go away. Now it was time for God to flesh out the promises of chapter 12.

What did God promise Abram?
Your heir…one who will come from your own body
Count the stars … so shall your descendants be
I…give you this land to inherit it.”

When will it happen?
you shall be buried at a good old age.
Your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs…four hundred years.
But in the fourth generation they shall return here
They shall come out with great possessions

Where will it happen?
From the river of Egypt to…the River Euphrates

How sure is this to happen?
I am the LORD…Know certainly…there appeared a smoking oven and a burning torch

It was a complete plan.

Would you be interested to know that God has a complete plan for everyone? Here is how we know that:
“For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:11-13)

This promise God gave to his people held captive in Babylon is good for us, too. The details differ but each plan contains the words ‘prosper’, ‘hope’, and ‘future’. To find your plan, you need only call upon and pray to God, and seek Him with all your heart. The plan will unfold for you, His plan, made specifically for you.
