Christian Living
He is a man of passion. If you look for him, you’ll find him the fray, right in the thick of things. He doesn’t mind getting his hands “dirty”, or speak his mind. He doesn’t have a problem telling you the truth either.
If you want to get the job done, call this man. If you want a man of character, then look no further. He’s not afraid of anything, and has faced adversaries much bigger than himself. Know who I am talking about? Paul? No. David, good guess, but not the right one! I’m talking about Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter!
I laugh out loud when I see him because he is so animated. His enthusiasm is infectious, and he has the same passion at age 40 that he had at 9 when he “jumped” his first crocodile! He is a credit to his industry (conservation) and to his zoo (Australia Zoo) and to his belief (that all animals, especially reptiles are to be saved). His demeanor is sometimes childlike, but not naïve. He is driven with passion to save animals.
He mentioned when he went to school the kids laughed at him because he was not interested in sports. He was generally in the trees in the playground catching snakes! He said he didn’t mind their taunts, and in fact got other kids interested in conservation, one of them is Wes, today his closest friend and ally.
He is everything I want to be, and should be when I talk about my passion — Jesus Christ! He is knowledgeable, but not detached. He is enthusiastic, and could care less whether other people think he is childish! He is so passionate about his conservation efforts that he “preaches” conservation every chance he gets.
Personality has nothing to do with it. In private life he can be (according to his wife and family) a quiet man, a reflective man. But when he is out doing what he loves best, he is outspoken, never rude, but bold!
Doesn’t this sound like a job description for the Christian? Be bold, have a word in season and out of season? All too often though we come across as so stiff and formal, and so all-knowing that all the passion for Jesus is leached out of us!
Steve Irwin lives and breathes animals. For him very little else matters — he is a man driven. Am I like that when it comes to Jesus? Am I just as unconcerned with the taunts I may get, because my enthusiasm and excitement for Jesus is my over-riding passion? I pray that my passion for Jesus may be just as infectious!
