Matthew 5- 14-16
14"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
Let us take a moment and reflect on the subject of light. Speaking of our light and how it shines for Jesus. Are we like the fire that burns hot and then smolders away? How about a light bulb that we turn on an off as we choose. Does our light shine every day in all that we do? Does Christ live within us or do we simply let him stay around us?
These are questions that are top importance when it comes to how we give witness for our Lord and Savior. If we preach holiness yet live as the heathen then how well do we represent Christ? Often times the only Jesus, people will see is what they see in us. Their judgment on Christianity and Jesus is often determined by what they see in us. If we speak something and declare it as truth, yet those around us do not see us living it we appear false and put doubt into the searching souls longing for truth.
Often people as new Christians wonder what they can do for Jesus. The answer is so simple, and that is to allow the Holy Spirit to shine thru us in our lives. Let the world see the glory of God in the changes we make for good. I can remember a song from the past, though I can not recall the author. It said “do not tell them Jesus loves them until you are ready to love them too”. We must be prepared to not only preach it or teach it but we must live it and walk it.
We are representatives of Jesus Christ. We are supposed to be empowered to overcome sin and to be a beacon of light protecting the fragile souls from being bashed into the jagged rocks by the massive tides within the storms of life. The way we go about our daily lives and the things we say have an enormous impact on the choices people will make and the decision to make changes in their lives.
So we see that each Christian is an important part of building the body of Christ. I ask again “how is your light shining today”? Will those around you see Jesus, and want what it is they see in you? Let us all agree that yesterday is gone, but today we make a pledge to Jesus, that the light within us shall be seen by those around us, and will be a positive impact on their decision to allow Christ into their lives. The light within us will bring truth to darkness and light the way home to Jesus
