TO THE HUSBAND OF MY YOUTH

When I was sixteen and you were twenty,
God brought us together and offered us plenty.
We laughed and we loved and bought us a home,
We did the best we could, but we did it alone.

"We're too busy for church in our life," we said,
"We want to spend our Sundays together instead."
So we left God behind and went our own way,
But, soon did we learn that life is more than just play.

Life lessons were hard and tore at our hearts,
With no one to guide us, our love ripped us apart.
Our troubles haunted us day after day,
Until all we coud do, was to go separate ways.

I went one way and you went another.
The years went by, but never really got better.
Until one day, when life was at its worst,
I picked up the Bible and found God alive in verse.

God healed my heart and He removed all strife.
He said, "Come follow me, I will give you new life."
I followed Him then, I follow Him now.
I cherish all the blessings that He does allow.

Forty years have passed since our wedding day,
And I never thought there could ever be a way,
For you and me to make a brand new start,
But God has shown me, He has also healed your heart.

So here we are, remembering our youth,
We're looking to the future and knowing the truth,
God is blessing us with a second chance,
To rekindle our love - to live and laugh and dance.

I'm grateful to God for all He has done,
For all that He has taught us since we were so young.
For now we can live with Him in our hearts,
With joy overflowing, and never will we part.
