Ephesians 1:4-6 – “Before He made the world, God loved us and chose us to be holy and without fault in His eyes. God decided in advance to bring us into His own family by bringing us to Himself through Jesus Christ. He did this because He wanted to and it makes Him happy. So we praise God for the amazing grace He has poured out on us who belong to His dear Son.”
Long before He made anything, from eternity past, God knew you and loved you. Before time, He knew everything that will and has happened – and He did it all anyway. He knew that we would fall, that we would turn our backs on Him and break His heart – and still He loved us. He knew what He would suffer to save us, but He did it all anyway. He did it all so that we would truly know how He loves. This is love; not that we loved Him but that He loved us and sent His only Son to die for us while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8). He chose to claim us, to heal and fix and restore us, to purify us through His own blood. We are His, joint heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17), the children of God (John 1:12, 1st John 3:1, Romans 8:16). He did it all because He wanted to, because He wanted us. He did it because He wanted to show His grace and mercy and love (Ephesians 2:4-7), and to win our love in return. Anything that you’ve ever done or could ever do would never change His love. He knew it all from the start and loved and called you anyway. He has set His love on you, and that is that. However, this does not give us excuse to sin. “Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin how can we live in it any longer? … Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body… offer yourselves to God… as instruments of righteousness.” (Romans 6:1-3&11-13). Rather, because this is true, we should give thanks to Him by living for His glory alone. Let us remember that God saves us not only out of His mercy, but also in order to bring us to Himself because He wants to. He desires to present us faultless to Himself with exceeding great joy. (Jude 24-25). It is for His own joy as well as ours, for He delights in those who are His. It was for this purpose, ultimately, for which He created us and saved us, washed us clean in His blood. How could we not respond to such infinite and unconditional love? This love is the reason that we have joy and peace. We have joy in Him who loves us, saves us, and delights in us. We have peace in knowing that we are reconciled to Him (Romans 5:10) and nothing can separate us from His love (Romans 8:38-39). Everyday, our hearts should overflow with praises to God because of His amazing grace and mercy that He shows to us by drawing us to His Son.
Let all who are God’s pray, “Thank You, our God and Savior, for loving us, choosing us, washing us, adopting us, and making us Yours alone. May we always remember that Your thoughts of us are filled with love and joy over us for no less reason than that we are Yours. May our hearts be filled with praise to You for all the grace You pour out on us. Fill us with Your presence and pour Your own love and joy into our hearts. Oh, God, we are so amazed at the infinite depths of Your love. To You be all the glory because of who You are, through all generations, forever and ever! Amen.”
