This was the command that the Lord Jesus gave to Gideon, but it also is the command He gives to everyone of His children. The Lord calls us to His cross for redemption and then sends us as sheep amongst wolves in this evil wicked world. Well, we have no might or strength, so He must be speaking of us in the power of His might.
There are infinite things in this earth that Christ is working out through individual people scattered about like seed in the ground. We are to be the seed bearers every where we go by speaking the Word of Truth (the gospel of Christ) without apology or regret no matter the location.
When we go, we will encounter all sort of false religion and belief systems that cause men and women to not be able to hear (with spiritual understanding) the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. We will encounter those who believe that we are trying to force our beliefs on them. People tell us to embrace any religion or worship as equal to the gospel of Christ. Tolerance of other false religions and beliefs come our way constantly and we must expect belittlement if we are not prepared to yield.
Mark 8:38 For whoever is ashamed [here and now] of Me and My words in this adulterous (unfaithful) and [preeminently] sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when He comes in the glory (splendor and majesty) of His Father with the holy angels. (Quick Amplified Bible)
However, we must constantly here these words from our Lord and Savior “Go in this might of Yours.” Must we ever shriek from such a great command as this by compromising what we have received from Him? The answer is obvious and it is sure that we are soldiers fighting in a war where the casualties will face eternal death.
One of the great American Generals said that, “In war there is no substitute for victory.” Well, if that is true for earthly wars between nations (and I believe that it is) then it is certainly true in this spiritual war for the eternal souls of men and woman. We soldiers of the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ cannot afford complacency, neglect, or compromise. Everyday another battle is being waged in the spiritual realm and the cost is eternal to every man, woman, and child.
People will pull others in every direction vying for them to receive their so-called truth. Mormons, Hindus, Buddhist, Muslims, Jehovah's Witness, false cults, the occult, etc. are all vying to make people (souls) believe that their religion (their way) will bring them power, and to God and bring them desired results down here on earth. All of these encounters will be due to satanic opposition. The devil is extremely religious and he has established these false beliefs to deceive men and woman in order that they perish eternally.
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. (NKJV)
Tolerance may appear (on the surface) to be the showing of love to those who believe falsely, but on the contrary, it is the opposite of God's Love. In the natural, if we were to see a blind man walking toward the edge of a cliff, we would not out of tolerance respect his choice to walk where he pleases when his ignorance of the truth or the facts is about to cost him his natural life. Well, such must be our approach for the eternal life of those who are about to walk off a spiritual cliff that will surely cost them their eternal soul.
The pervasive acceptance today of tolerance in the spiritual and natural realm today comes directly from the deceitful mind of the devil and he has deceived this entire world with this so-called humanitarian concept.
1 John 5:19 We know [positively] that we are of God, and the whole world [around us] is under the power of the evil one. (Quick Amplified Bible)
It is our job to warn those in darkness. We must give them the gospel of Christ and pray that the Spirit of God convicts them of sin and brings them to the cross of Christ. Everyman is completely blind spiritually until they have come to the foot of Christ cross. We as soldiers must not argue with those who are blind. We will never argue them into recognizing their lost sinful state. They are not even aware of their blind condition.
We cannot make them see (or behold) the goodness of the Lord Jesus Christ, but we must show forth His Divine Nature within us. In the natural, sometimes we shun certain types of food simply because some of the ingredients appear to us to be distasteful without ever having tasted a sample to see if it were good or not. Such is the way of all lost sinners with Christ; many think it is some sort of bondage or imprisonment to follow the Lord Jesus Christ. They think minus their favorite and most precious sins, their lives become boring or restrained. They cannot image life without the continual indulgence of sin.
Psalm 34:8 O taste and see that the Lord [our God] is good! Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who trusts and takes refuge in Him. (Quick Amplified Bible)
We can now see that happy is the man or woman who has finally put their complete trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. Just like the example of the food, when we take that leap of faith, we find out that what we considered bad in essence was the very best. We need to be very close to the Lord Jesus Christ always in order that He may meet this satanic opposition for us and allow us to continue in what He has called each of us individually to accomplish.
Lost men and woman do not want to here the Word of God until the Spirit of God begins to move in their hearts convicting them of there lost state or condition. Our might is His might and the results of our seed sowing are really none of our business. Some of us may sow seed and others sent to lost souls to water that seed, but the Lord gives the increase. He causes the seed to take root and sprout into eternal life. It is perhaps the greatest miracle in the universe.
Like seed planted in a garden or on a farm, the Word of God will germinate and produce a crop in the heart and lives of some fertile soul, some 100, 60, and 30 fold. We as the seed sewers cannot understand such a miracle, but it is of God and all things are possible with Him. Let us not ever grow weary in doing well (of sowing the Word) for in due season we shall surely reap.
When we examine many of the men God used to accomplish His eternal purpose most (if not all) felt inadequate for the task that the Lord set before them. Moses made excuses about his speech, Gideon was afraid, and Jeremiah said to the Lord, I could not speak for I am a child. However, when we read on further in the first Chapter of Jeremiah we hear the Lord say to Jeremiah that the people will fight against him because he will speak the Word of the Lord, but that they will not prevail against him for the Lord was with him.
Today the Lord Jesus Christ has given you and me a rock solid assurance that He will never leave nor forsake us even to the end of the age. Someone has well quoted that the will of God will never take you where the grace of God cannot sustain you. In a personal testimony of mine, I hated English in High School and College. Anything that required extensive reading and/or writing I soundly rejected and made every excuse I could think of to get out of such task. What is it that the Lord Jesus Christ has called me to do everyday? Of course, writing is His will for me. Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world and my own so called wisdom?
1 Corinthians 1:27 “But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise.”
This is the method of our Heavenly Father, the Ancient of Days, to use our own foolishness to confound the wise and even astound many of us. The method and manner He has purposed to use us in this life can be astonishing. He takes our weaknesses, infuses His grace, and turns them into strengths. He gives us a new heart with new passions and desires that we never could have envisioned for ourselves.
I do not hate writing anymore, but I soundly love it with all my heart. Every day the Lord gives me another day I cannot wait to hear from Him and pour out of my heart in my daily Prayer Journal and the contents of the Manuscripts, Devotionals, Bible Commentaries, Fiction, etc. He has so freely poured into my heart and mind. I would have never dreamed 20 years ago that I would not only write but love doing so.
John 14:23-24 Jesus answered, If a person [really] loves Me, he will keep My word [obey My teaching]; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home (abode, special dwelling place) with him. Anyone who does not [really] love Me does not observe and obey My teaching. And the teaching which you hear and heed is not Mine, but [comes] from the Father Who sent Me. (Quick Amplified Bible)
I really have no idea where the Lord is taking me on this journey I have embarked on, but I know that hearing the words that pour forth from my heart excites me with a burning passion each day to learn from Him and be all that it is He wants me to be in this pilgrimage here on earth. I am going in the might of mine not knowing where it will end. Also not knowing what success (if any) it will bring. However, He has commanded me and I will follow. What He begins, He will finish. How wonderful to know that the Lord Jesus ordained what we are now doing before He even founded this world.
Sincerely in Christ,
