Light of Christmas

When I see the lights of Christmas
As they cover the streets and stores
I get the saddest feeling
That we should be seeing more.
From every tree and window
Bright beacons glow through the night
But still my heart is heavy;
Feeling that something’s not right.

As I wander thru lighted shops
I see many gifts on display
And all the decorations
That promote this special day.
But where in all this clutter
Is the truest Gift of all?
Can shining lights of Christmas
Chase away this dreary pall?

Blinded by the tinsels glare
We often forget to seek
The greatest gift of all times,
One both so strong and meek.
He has no need of wrappings
Or the trappings that we bring;
For what gift can we offer
To the Holy King of Kings?

Wise men seek the Savior,
Not some bargain on a shelf.
And fill their hearts with gratitude…
No stocking stuffed by an elf.
They wait with anticipation
For the day of His return
And know the greatest gift of all
Is one that we can’t earn.

And so on Christmas Eve this year
As you lay down to sleep.
Don’t dream of toys and sugar plums..
Those are things that you can’t keep.
But think upon the Savior
And lift up a prayer that night
In praise and adoration
To our blessed Christmas Light

This is a beautiful poem. It reminds all of us of the real reason we celebrate Christmas.
