Why Men ought to be Thankful

They were doctors who had responded to a social dissimulation, they had packed bag and baggage and traveled to the ends of the earth to give medical aid to victims and aggressors alike in the humid tropical jungles of Rwanda, where blood had poured until they very earth coughed it out in disgust. One doctor had made an attempt to deliver food and water to a camp location that was in an extremely hostile state. He was refused entry and tried time and time again to make sure that the hungry got fed, they sick got attended to and drinking water could make its way to the needy.

As he tells the story as they eventually got entry into one camp , his Jeep was suddenly, surrounded by a marauding mass of angry men who began a milling dance, waving machetes and crying for blood. “Suddenly, it was as though, a spirit of murderous intent had taken over the aggressive group’

I knew, he continued any moment from now, every restraint will be thrown to the wind and I and my driver will be flailed into a mass of unrecognized tissue.

Just when we were lost amidst raising dust and milling mass with all hopes of escape cut off, a man in khaki suit , from out of seemingly no where, was a presence not to be ignored, he was a tall dark man whose presence commanded attention in a manner so peaceful, it drained violence from our midst, he spoke in a calm commanding voice from the very edge. “Let them go”, his words were a quiet strength of overwhelming impact, all actions ceased and all eyes turned towards him, his voice carried as clear as a bird’s song on a quiet night. “Let them pass”.

Suddenly on its own volition, the crowd opened and a path was created around our truck, the doctor who was with ‘Medicins san Frontier’, told his story in sober tones, we drove out of there as fast we could. Later a good distance away I turned and looked behind and there he stood a lone figure, standing on a knoll looking at our departing Jeep. To this day, he concluded, I do not doubt that, that man was an Angel sent by the Lord to save us, for without his involvement, I have no doubt that we would not have left that camp alive.

Men have to be thankful for all things as the scriptures admonished, for in everything and in all things humans are recipients of a God’s blessings. We dwell on a perfect biosphere, to which we brought nothing, yet everything is perfected, our task is to find clues, to make pre-prepared utility for improving our life quality.
