Church IV

A family of spiritual seekers appears at the back of the church.
Upper class,
Professionally educated,
Compassionate,
"Good moral people."
They are looking for peace, hope, love, joy.
They enter the doors of the church.
They are totally welcomed,loved, accepted,and enjoyed.
At church they feel hope, love, and peace.
And so on Sunday's their souls are quieted
While during the week their souls void is like a cross they cannot carry.
They listen respectfully and intently at church
To fill the cross like hole in their souls.
So many, many, questions to be answered.
The preacher eloquently pontificates
That salvation is found in good works.
But the void in their soul grows larger.
Their good works increase yet in the depths of their souls there is no heart peace.
And the cross like void in their soul grows larger.
Their good works increase yet in the depth of their souls there is no heart peace.
And the cross like void in their soul grows larger.
The church grows bigger.
Works increase
Impassioned well intentioned people
Give their all to make the world a better place.
But souls are lost because the free gift of salvation through faith by grace
Is substituted by
Good Works,
New Buildings,
Programs for all,
And right intentions.
And all because a preacher is driven by a Crossless, Christless social gospel
That says by good works you are forgiven.
