Prayers

I am burning out, Lord . . .
I feel my body becoming unglued.
I have taken too much upon myself.
Every inch of me aches
with exhaustion and fatigue.
My legs are crumbling.
They will not hold me up.
My head is pounding.
I fear it will explode.
My eyes are glaring.
They will not focus.
My ears cannot stand the noise.
Every sound is much too loud.

I am burning out, Lord . . .
I am so tired.
I am depleted by things
that must be done –
with so little time to do them in . . .
I have spread myself too thin.
There is not enough of me
to go around.
Where is rest?
Where is sleep? . . .

Slow me down, Lord . . .
Put me in this bed for a while –
and place a “Do Not Disturb” sign
upon my life . . .
that, in my sleep,
You may renew my strength . . .
that, in my rest,
You may speak to me . . .
That, in the quiet tranquility
of my waking up,
I can place my “too-full” days
in Your Hands,
trusting You to sort them out –
trusting You to put
the proper perspective
upon each moment . . .

After rest is done,
I arise refreshed . . .
revitalized to meet the day
with my light turned on again. . .

Be the Maker of my days, Lord.
Direct each moment of my life
that I may not run too fast – too hard . . .
that I may see when it is time
to slow down for a while . . .
