MIDLIFE


Midlife! I don’t care if you are a man or a woman it still feels like you are going through hell. It’s like some demon enters your body and messes around with every hormone, turning you into Sibel or some other three eyed monster.

I think it is God’s way of paying us back for every evil deed we have ever done and will ever do. It’s a time in your life when you are absolutely lost and you can’t remember where you left that darn map. The problem is, even if you found the map your sight is so bad that you couldn’t read it anyways.

You are angry and you don’t know why, but that doesn’t matter half as much as the fact that it’s over ridden by boughts of anxiety and depression. You begin to wonder, how such an intelligent person as yourself could have made so many stupid mistakes. I stare at the mirror in shock as this person who I faintly recognize, keeps looking back at me with this confused glassy eyed stare. I can read its eyes as they ask, “Who are you?”

At this time of life I find my body is beginning to make strange noises at the most inappropriate times. Gas and air seems to leak from every place in my body. The hair on my head is rerouting itself through my nose and ears. I have three pairs of glasses and I can’t see well out of any of them. There must be someone hiding in my house who constantly keeps moving things around. I can’t find my glasses even though I was positive I put them on the desk. My keys are never where I last left them and my wallet has a mind of its own. It’s to the point that I have to get ready an hour earlier just so I can find my glasses, keys and that silly wallet!

The encouraging news is when I do find my glasses I get to look at the most beautiful person in the whole world who just happens to be my wife of over 36 years. When I find my keys we’ll take a drive over to our daughter’s house to visit and play with our grandkids. If I’m lucky, I may even find my wallet and be able to take the whole tribe out for some ice cream. Maybe mid life isn’t so bad after all.
