Do Over

Did you ever play a game and for some reason it was not going the way you expected, so we would call for a Do Over. I liked do overs. They allowed me the luxury of changing the rules or the game completely if necessary.

In reviewing my life, and where I am at right now, it occurred to me that if I had the chance to do it over, there would definitely be some changes. I would spend less time acquiring external things and spend more time acquiring internal peace and harmony. I would work towards purity of heart, mind and spirit. I would be more sensitive to my walk with God and less sensitive to what others think. I would make sure my wife knew and felt that no one in my life mattered more than her and that my children truly believed that if they could dream it, they could do it. I would strive to be more patient and in less of a hurry. I would be kinder and gentler to myself and others. I would learn to relax, to listen more and talk less, and I would also worry less and laugh more. I would try harder to be a good friend, as well as better husband and father. I wouldn’t be so judgmental, but I would be more loving and accepting of people regarding their opinions and problems. I wouldn’t lie or exaggerate just to try and impress someone. I wouldn’t compromise my beliefs or lower my standards just because others might not understand or accept me. I would set myself free from all the negative voices of the past and begin to listen to that small voice inside that says God loves me just the way I am.

It dawned on me after I wrote this, that my life is not over. That tomorrow is a brand new day and I get to live my life over with every sunrise. I don’t have to accept things the way they are. I can change, I can grow, I can be the person that I truly want to be. No one can hold me back but myself and my fear. No force is greater than my own will. So today I choose to live my life differently. I choose a Do Over! I can’t undo the past, but I don’t have to live in it either. I release all the pain, guilt, shame and regrets. Today I choose to be the kind of positive, sensitive, enthusiastic person I’ve always dreamed I could be. Is this life great or what!
