"Without wood a fire goes out; without gossip a quarrel dies down" (Proverbs 26:20)

SO many proverbs speak of our speech. It is important what we say, and when we say it. This proverb makes a basic observation--that gossip feeds a quarrel. Jesus wants us to be peacemakers. He says love COVERS a multitude of sins--one way is by not passing on tales about others--gossip. People who delight in gossip generally do so because they want to compare their lives to the lives of others. That is not God's way. He calls us to our own potential. We don't need to gossip, we need to examine ourselves before God.
