I’m Sorry

It’s not any easy word to say and truly mean. I’ve said it many times but deep down inside I didn’t feel it. I wasn’t truly sorry I just wanted to get the conflict over with. But now as I look over my life and see all the mistakes I have made and the people I have hurt and I am deeply sorry. Unfortunately there isn’t much that I can do about it now. I can’t reverse the mistakes nor cancel out the hurtful words I have spoken. What I have figured out is that instead of using the words I’m sorry to get myself out of a jam, I can use those same words to bring healing and respect back into my life.

I can write a note or pick up the phone and let those I have hurt know that I am truly sorry for any pain I have caused them. They may not forgive. Hey they may not even remember! The point is, I remember and I need to move on. I need to be free of all these regrets and mistakes.

I’m not asking for them to forgive me or to like me again. The point is that I forgive myself and like myself again. I personally need to be free of the past baggage as well as the other person I no longer wish to be. I want to be kind. I want to be caring and considerate of others. I have lived as a social bull in a china shop long enough.

Maybe someone has hurt you deeply and those scars won’t heal. Maybe you were wronged, cheated on, or ripped off by someone you trusted. In either case I need to say I’m sorry to some one so let me say it to you. In your case, simply picture the person who has hurt you standing before you saying these words.

I’m truly sorry for every thing I’ve done that has hurt you. I was selfish and inconsiderate and didn’t take your feelings into consideration like I should have. I abused your trust and I am deeply sorry for my actions. I wish you well and if there is anything I can do to make up for how I have treated you please let me know.

Please find it in your heart to forgive me and let me go. We both need to be free from this as the weight is just too heavy for both of us to carry any longer. Let the pain of those memories and words go so that a fresh new wind may sweep out those old ashes and bring newness of life into your soul.
