Encouragement
There are days when the sun shines and everything simply falls into place; days when joy can be seen as it should be seen; in the small, ordinary comforts and pleasures of life.
On days such as these, it is easier to believe that "God is in His Heaven; that all is right with the world". These are the "mountaintop" days of life that give rise to the delusion that we are invincible; that self-preservation is a possibility.
And then come the sunless days of rain in life that prove to wake up reality; the mountaintop seems too far away. Courage in the ability to climb seems to utterly shrink as we are forced to face spiritual vulnerabilities and human frailties.
Happily there is hope for the darker days of living. As Christians we were given two magnificent spiritual gifts. One gift being God's Grace to sustain the strength to keep moving; the other being the Holy Spirit to comfort and encourage as we step forward in faith.
Even though the walk through the rooms of experience in life can seem frightening and lonely, perhaps the greatest peace could come from the knowledge that God will provide what is
needed for the journey.
"Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God" (Romans 8:26,27).
It could be simply enough for us to know that, while we do not possess the power to see into the future, God can. If He has a plan and a purpose, then surely He will provide the tools needed to fulfill them accordingly.
What a blessing it would have been to have walked alongside Jesus when He lived on earth; to have had his visible presence for reassurance. How very blessed His disciples were to have felt the warmth and security of His arms around them as they faced the darker days.
While we do not have the physicial presence of the Master with us, there is the promise of His Spirit to comfort and sustain. We have been given a "Helper" for the helplessness.
‘If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.’ (John 14: 15-18)
