It was raining and my little rat terrier Mitsy knew the routine. She would sit back and we’d say “foot check”. She’d patiently let us check and wipe each little foot before she came past the entryway. My childhood pet was also talented at doing tricks. She liked to jump over our crossed leg as we sat down. But being a short dog, she usually only made it halfway over. My dad, always the encourager, would say “Well, any dog can jump all the way over; it takes a special dog to just jump halfway!” Yes, Mitsy was talented and obedient, despite her feisty nature. And I might add, also incredibly patient because I loved to dress my pet in doll clothes and take her for a walk in my doll buggy. I’m sure she was embarrassed, but she loved me so she endured the ridicule from the other dogs in the neighborhood.

Just like my dog was obedient and submissive, I know I need to be obedient to my Savior Jesus Christ. The Lord provides the commandments and instructions in the Bible for me to follow. Unlike the silly things I made poor Mitsy do, none of the commandments and rules provided in the Bible (our instruction manual for life) is unnecessary or “silly”. The Lord gave me the commandments in the Bible for my good; to keep me healthy and safe, and to give me Life.

The Lord is incredibly patient with me as I ever strive to reach toward the goal of becoming a Proverbs 31 woman. With the Lord’s help, I will do my best each day to be obedient and to discover all the gifts and talents He’s given me to further His kingdom. I laugh as I remember the joys from my childhood, and I hold onto my joy as an adult because I know the Lord has great plans for my life and a future with Him as my blessed Savior and Heavenly Father.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Psalm 20:4 “May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.”
