Devotionals
Iowa has its share of interesting weather. And as I grew up, the tornado sirens were a natural and expected part of my life. As soon as the sky grew dark and the sirens sounded, my sister and I would gather our treasured possessions and head to the basement. My mom would carry the radio downstairs and my dad would go outside to watch the sky. I knew it was really serious when my dad would carry the mattress out of the storage area and we’d sit under it to protect ourselves in the event of flying glass if the basement windows broke.
The fear of tornados never really scared me. I just obediently went to the basement and knew I was with my family and felt totally safe. I knew my father was watching the storm and would keep us safe. And in the current “storms” of life, I can have that same assurance from my Heavenly Father. He holds us in the palm of His hand and I can have peace in any circumstance, assured that He’s watching the storms.
They say that Jesus will most likely come back during our generation. And while the storms will intensify according to the book of Revelation, we can have peace that passes any human understanding. Only Christians will be able to feel this peace and assurance during troubled times. And as Christians, we have a responsibility to continue to reach out and try to lead others to Christ by our witnessing, our testimony, and by our actions. There are many people who are still out in the storms, and we need to bring them into our Father’s house where they’ll be safe. We don’t know how short our time is, so I want to always keep a sense of urgency in my heart so that I can make a difference in the world while I still can, and rescue my friends and loved ones from the storms.
Psalm 10:25 “When the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled away, but the godly have a lasting foundation.”
Isaiah 25:4 “But you are a tower of refuge to the poor, O Lord, a tower of refuge to the needy in distress. You are a refuge from the storm and a shelter from the heat…”

What a super analogy this is. I love the line about your father watching the storm and picturing Jesus watching our storms. Excellent!
This brings back so many memories of my Iowa days. You've written this devotional very well.
